St. Louis Protesters Stage ‘Die-In’ Outside Police Department

St. Louis protesters gathered outside police headquarters for a “die-in” Sunday afternoon, marking the third day of protest over a not guilty verdict in a fatal police shooting of a black man.
Hundreds of protesters stood outside the St. Louis Police Department, chanting “no justice, no peace” and “stop killing us.” Many of them also held up signs reading “Let justice roll down like water” and “when will good officers deal with bad cops?”

After standing in front of the police headquarters for about an hour, the protesters staged a “die-in,” where they laid down in the street and pretended to be dead. They eventually got up, left police headquarters and began marching in the streets, chanting “we fight back!”

Protesters have taken to the streets for the past three days ever since a judge ruled not guilty in the 2011 shooting of Anthony Lamar Smith by former St. Louis police officer Jason Stockley. While protests were mainly peaceful Friday and Saturday afternoon, they grew more tense during the night. Protesters destroyed businesses and set an American flag on fire Friday night and some police officers suffered injuries while trying to keep the peace.
The protesters entered Saint Louis University campus and marched by the dorms, shouting “out of the dorms and into the streets.”
