This week’s episode of “Alternative Facts” evaluated media coverage surrounding convicted WikiLeaks collaborator Chelsea Manning’s appointment as a visiting fellow at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s scrutiny of a judicial nominee’s Catholic faith.
The show also discussed favorable coverage of a military program that recruits foreign nationals, which Pentagon investigators believe has been compromised by foreign powers.
Manning’s appointment as visiting fellow was rescinded late Thursday after backlash from the U.S. intelligence establishment. She will still appear on campus to deliver a lecture and take questions from students. In the months following her release from military custody, she has written on topics related to the intelligence community, appeared in media, and associated herself with LGBT social causes.
“Alternative Facts” then discussed the absence of coverage around Feinstein’s criticism of Notre Dame Law School Professor Amy Coney Barrett, President Trump’s nominee to the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Feinstein expressed concern at a hearing last week that Barrett’s traditional religious views would preclude her from discharging her duties as a federal judge.
