Gingrich: Steve Bannon Is A ‘Pirate’ Who’s Happier Outside The White House

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Steve Bannon prefers “being a pirate” than working in the Trump administration as an adviser and will be happier returning to Breitbart News.

“Steve Bannon is much more of a free spirit. I once said that he was a pirate serving in the U.S. Navy. I think he preferred to go back to being a pirate, and he’ll be on the outside attacking things he doesn’t like, and offering ideas the president will sometimes adopt,” Gingrich said during a Monday interview with “Fox and Friends.”

Gingrich said there are “three key steps” Trump has to follow after ousting Bannon to get his legislative agenda back on track. Step one, take advantage of Chief of Staff John Kelly’s knowledge and experience. Step two, start thinking as a “team leader” and “team builder,” and finally limit self-inflicted damage.

“He’s got to quit stepping on himself,” Gingrich said. “He’s got to be more disciplined and he’s got to work as part of a team. And then I think generally he could end up being a remarkably great president, but he’s got to make a couple of midcourse corrections.”
