A prominent senator sent out a tweet discussing “naked ladies” Monday, causing initial shock in social media that quickly abated once it became clear the lawmaker was referencing an addition to his flower garden.
Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa tweeted that he is “Delighted to show the beautiful Naked Ladies in my flower garden at my Iowa Farm.” The senator’s tongue-in-cheek statement referred to Naked Lady flowers, a variety of lilies.

The Republican senator, 83, described himself as a “family farmer” on Twitter, causing strong reactions from his followers.

Grassley began his political career in 1958 when he was elected to the Iowa State Legislature. He served for six years in the U.S. House of Representatives, and has been a senator since 1981.
Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, is currently investigating possible Russian collision in the 2016 election.
