Embattled GOP Rep Blows Whistle On Himself, Tries To Bait House Into Investigating His Personal Life

Republican Ohio Rep. Max Miller said Tuesday he would open a House Ethics Committee investigation into himself.

Miller’s ex-wife, Emily Moreno, accused him of domestic abuse against herself and their two-year-old daughter, raising concerns about his ability to win reelection in November. The congressman said he would open an Ethics Committee investigation into himself because he has “nothing to hide.”

“In light of all the renewed interest in my family affairs I am going to file my own paperwork for an ethics investigation into myself to clear my name from these horrific attacks on myself and family,” Miller said on X. “I have absolutely nothing to hide. We will be providing the committee all necessary documents needed for a detail examination.”

“The accusations continue to change, but my facts stay the same. I am looking forward to my colleagues reading everything for themselves,” Miller continued.

The committee announced it opened an investigation into the allegations after Miller made the request.

“The Committee, pursuant to Committee Rule 18(a), is reviewing allegations that Representative Max Miller may have engaged in domestic violence and abuse or illegal drug use in violation of the Code of Official Conduct or any other applicable standard of conduct,” the committee said in a statement.

The Ethics Committee declined to comment on the matter. The committee refused to tell the Daily Caller News Foundation Friday if they would open an investigation into Miller.

Moreno accused Miller in May of throwing hot water from a pan on her in June 2024 and continuing to spray hot water on her from a sink hose, according to court records. She alleged that he fractured their daughter’s collarbone with “a bruise that accompanies the injury that appears to be in a handprint and appears to have been inflicted.”

Moreno alleged that when she stayed with Miller, her daughter said, “Daddy kill you,” according to CBS News. She claimed that Miller held a gun to her head in March 2025 and abused her in front of their daughter.

A court-appointed parental coordinator, Deborah Koricke, told the court in May that she was not convinced that Miller abused his then-wife and daughter, according to court records.

Both Miller and Moreno filed restraining orders against each other.

Miller denied all of the allegations and accused Moreno of being bipolar. He addressed the allegations Sunday in a livestream titled, “Special Announcement,” where he denied his ex-wife’s allegations and said he would remain in the race.

“The facts speak for themselves: the court has continued to permit him joint custody of his child. If there were credible evidence supporting these outrageous accusations, that simply would not be the case,” Angelos told CBS News. “Congressman Miller will continue to vigorously defend his reputation against false and reckless allegations designed to inflame public opinion rather than reflect reality. This narrative has gone on long enough.”

Moreno alleged that Miller made threatening statements against her father, Republican Ohio Sen. Bernie Moreno. Miller accused his former father-in-law of enabling his “daughter’s malicious campaign to ruin [his] life.” A spokesperson for the senator told the DCNF he would “do whatever it takes to ensure a just outcome for his family.”

“Senator Moreno’s top priority is the safety and well-being of his daughter and granddaughter,” Moreno spokesperson Reagan McCarthy said. “While he does not litigate these matters in the media or respond to baseless public attacks, he will do whatever it takes to ensure a just outcome for his family.”

Moreno told reporters Tuesday that he picked up his granddaughter from Miller at the police station Sunday and alleged Miller would not hand over her favorite stuffed animal bunny.

“This girl is crying at night because she can’t sleep without her little blue bunny. And his answer is, ‘I’m just not going to give it to you.’”

Several Republican senators, including Miller’s ex-father-in-law, called on Miller to drop out.

President Donald Trump called Miller Monday and said “things aren’t looking good,” indicating that his candidacy was in trouble, according to Axios.
