A day at the range is supposed to be a fun time, but sometimes disaster can strike even when you’re doing your best to stay safe.

We’ve seen a lot of social media videos where people have been doing stuff that courts disaster – sometimes when they are people who should know a whole lot better – like an instructor. But in the case in a video posted to X Tuesday by the Guns and Memes account, the disaster came because the gun practically blew up in the shooter’s hands.

The video shows the shooter has a Glock pistol – which is a popular choice due to the pistol’s simplicity of operation (it’s almost like a revolver), a wide variety of calibers to choose from (the company has built pistols firing .22 long rifle to .45 ACP and even developed the .45 GAP round) and the reliability of its products. That said, instances have occurred where the pistol has what is known as a “kaboom.

In this case, the shooter is a very lucky individual. He wasn’t hurt, but we certainly can see the results: ammo’s blown up – the magazine is a wreck, and that pistol will need to go to the gunsmith.

We then see him with another Glock (this one equipped with one of those Glock switches anti-Second Amendment agitators are hitting the panic button over. He is reloading with more ammo and firing again. Points for getting back on the horse, but after that kaboom, he needed to get checked out first.

What causes a pistol to go kaboom? It can involve many causes, but seems to be more common with reloaded ammunition, according to American Handgunner magazine. The warning signs can be subtle – something just feels off from when you’re shooting your firearm.

So why did this Glock have the kB!? We don’t have enough facts to make the determination ourselves, but according to those who have tracked the issue with Glocks, it seems to involve pistols using reloaded or remanufactured ammo.

In any case, this shooter probably has a gunsmith bill, a close call he can talk about with his buddies over beer and pizza and a lesson in making sure that things are okay with his gun and his ammo before he pulls the trigger at a range.
