Barstool’s Dave Portnoy Threatens To Enter Politics As Mamdani Rises

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy suggested during a Monday interview that he is currently weighing entering into politics.

Portnoy, also known as “El Presidente,” claimed during an appearance on Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime” that he would “love to run against” Democratic New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

“I would love to run against him [Mamdani],” Portnoy said. “If I were gonna run, it would be here.”

Mamdani’s office did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

“We need leaders to step up,” Portnoy told Waters. “Depending on what day you catch on me in Nantucket, when I roll out of bed, I have a nice ocean view, and it’s like, ‘Why do I want to ruin my life and get involved in this mess,’ because I know what comes with it? But sometimes, I do feel like it’s my duty. I can’t turn away. I feel like I could make a change.”

“I’ve had a real job, I’ve done real things, unlike these clown politicians who have never had a job,” Portnoy added.

Portnoy has previously publicly criticized Mamdani, blasting him as a “professional actor” in a June 18 X post.

“I don’t get why people are impressed by a guy who is good at reading other people’s speeches,” Portnoy wrote in the social media post. “He’s a professional actor. People slobbering all over Mandami. I get that politicians always try to make sports about them and use it to their advantage so I guess you can’t blame Mandami for hogging the spotlight. But dude couldn’t name 1 player besides Brunson when asked during a debate last year. Now he’s a super fan? I think it speaks to how inauthentic he is and how dumb people are who slurp it up.”

Portnoy is also known for “One Bite Pizza Reviews,” a video series where he travels the U.S. and reviews pizzas at different restaurants.
