The Cleveland Clinic has agreed to “provide detransition care and not perform sex-rejecting procedures on minors,” the Department of Justice announced on June 5.
The Cleveland Clinic has entered into a decades-long commitment “to not perform or offer sex-rejecting procedures” for minors, according to the DOJ’s press release. As part of the resolution, Cleveland Clinic committed to shell out $2 million for detransitioners’ restorati
“The Department of Justice is steadfastly committed to protecting America’s children,” Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward said in a statement. “Just as the resolution with Texas Children’s, today’s resolution with Cleveland Clinic furthers that commitment and puts these providers on notice that this Department will vigorously enforce federal law where children are put at risk.”
“Furthermore, the term Sex-Rejecting Procedure does not include psychological or psychiatric treatments such as talk therapy, counseling, or other non-medical or surgical mental health interventions,” according to the settlement agreement.
When reached for comment, the DOJ referred the Daily Caller News Foundation to its news release from June 5.
“We are pleased to have worked collaboratively toward a resolution related to an unintentional coding issue involving a small number of patients,” a Cleveland Clinic spokesperson told the DCNF in a statement on Thursday. “We remain focused on providing exceptional care to our patients and communities. We have complied and will continue to comply with all federal and state laws.”
“I am grateful that institutions like Cleveland Clinic and Texas Children’s have decided to be part of the solution, not part of the problem,” Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Division Brett Shumate said in a statement. “Cleveland Clinic’s commitment to providing millions of dollars towards care for detransitioners is emblematic of just that.”
“I am grateful for this resolution with Cleveland Clinic, but our work is far from over, and our division will continue to work tirelessly to protect America’s children and hold accountable those that have preyed on vulnerable children, whether they be pharmaceutical companies or medical providers,” Shumate continued.
The settlement comes after the DOJ announced on May 15 that Texas Children’s Hospital had entered into agreements with the Department and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton “that include commitments to not perform such procedures on children, which include the administration of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones.”
The agreement also “does not reflect a conclusion or admission that [The Cleveland Clinic Foundation], or any other subcomponent or affiliated entity thereof, is subject to suit or liability under federal civil or criminal law and does not waive any defense that such entities may raise in any future proceeding.”
The Cleveland Clinic quietly erased pages on their website promoting gender ideology and equity efforts following the launch of an investigative campaign that exposed the hospital system’s “woke” policies, the DCNF previously reported in February 2025.
