Hegseth Boots ‘Woke’ Navy Admiral From NATO Post

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth canned a liberal Navy admiral last weekend amid the Trump administration’s cleanout of national security positions.

Hegseth removed U.S. Navy Vice Adm. Shoshana Chatfield from her post as the U.S. representative to NATO, Chief Pentagon Spokesperson Sean Parnell told reporters in a statement Tuesday. Chatfield was featured in a list of “woke” military officials provided to the Pentagon by the American Accountability Foundation (AAF), which cites her past remarks on Congress mostly consisting of men and attendance of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) events.

Chatfield is also slated to retire from her position in the Navy, a U.S. official told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

“Secretary Hegseth has removed U.S. Navy Vice Admiral Shoshana Chatfield from her position as U.S. representative to NATO’s military committee due to a loss of confidence in her ability to lead. The Defense Department is grateful for her many years of military service,” Parnell said in the statement.

Chatfield said during a speech at an Army “Women’s Equality Day” event in 2015 that 80% of congress being male made it seem “a bit unequal what issues go forward.”

“Investing in gender equality and women’s empowerment can unlock human potential on a transformational scale,” she concluded in her speech according to the AAF.

She also attended the 2022 Commander, Naval Air Force DEI Summit, according to two now-deleted LinkedIn posts cited by the AAF.

Hegseth and the Trump administration have been cleaning out the national security ranks of officials deemed to have espoused liberal or “woke” views, as well as many appointees from former President Joe Biden. Moreover, Trump issued executive orders barring transgender servicemembers from the military and banning DEI initiatives in the federal workforce, including the Defense Department.

The White House also reportedly fired National Security Agency chief Timothy Haugh after right-wing activist Laura Loomer provided Trump with research on staffers and urged him to fire them.
