CNN’s Chris Cuomo has a new set of eyes on him.
Tim Young, comedian and host of The Daily Caller News Foundation’s “No Things Considered,” dissected an awkward exchange between Cuomo and Trump administration deputy adviser Sebastian Gorka in his Monday broadcast.
Cuomo started his interview rattling off several statements on the proposed travel ban, before he even asked a question. It was only after he inserted his opinion that he gave Gorka a chance to respond.
“It is a ban, he likes that it’s a ban, he likes the original ban, and that’s what he wants everybody to know. Why play games?” asked Cuomo.
“There are no games,” Gorka shot back. “The president can call it whatever he likes, because he has the constitutional authority to control whoever comes into this country.”
Young said the way Gorka refers to Trump is the same way the media would refer to former President Barack Obama. The idea that the president has broad executive authority was a major talking point of those who defended Obama’s controversial actions during his tenure. He signed executive orders on major issues from immigration to gun control.
Cuomo was quick to rebut Gorka’s subsequent mention of Obama, saying, “While I like that you must get away from President Trump and his policies as quickly as possible … the facts are not your friend here.”
“If Chris Cuomo knows the answers to all the questions, why does he bother having anybody on?” asked Young. “He seems to be able to speak for the Obama administration and Trump administration.”
Cuomo continued to insist Trump’s ban was a ban on Muslims.
Gorka responded, “what is the most populous Muslim nation in the world?”
Cuomo refused to answer and said, “Assume I know nothing.” Gorka revealed the answer to be Indonesia and replied “I will assume you know nothing.”
Young then compared Cuomo to a nagging “little sister,” who’d been an apologist for the Obama administration for nearly a decade. He encouraged Cuomo to keep his day job and give up the dream of being Obama’s post-presidency spokesperson.
