A Veteran’s Home Burned Down. The American Flag Is The One Thing Still Standing

In a most unfortunate turn of events, a veteran’s home burned down on Veteran’s Day in Kentucky, but remarkably, despite all the needless destruction, the one thing that’s still standing on his property is the American flag.
The house fire started at 6 a.m. and quickly tore through the structure, rendering it a complete loss, WKYT reports.
Veteran Rush Cassady smelled smoke from the basement, but by the time he realized what was happening, it was too late. The first thing he tried to do was get his wife, who suffers from health issues, out of the house.
As the fire was raging, two men happened to pass by the house on their way to work at Toyota Motor Manufacturing and stopped over, banging on the door to see if anyone was still inside.
Rush and his wife Melanie were definitely still inside. The two men helped them out of the house, preventing the fire from claiming their lives.
According to Rush, the American flag is one of the few possessions of his that remained untouched.
