Fox News host Brian Kilmeade scrutinized President Joe Biden Thursday for announcing the birth of his great grandchild and not taking questions from reporters as the deadly wildfires raged across Southern California.

Biden announced that his granddaughter, Naomi, gave birth to her first child while he was being briefed by officials at a fire station in Santa Monica, California, alongside Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom. Kilmeade said Biden making the celebratory announcement and not taking any questions from the press is an “insult” to Californians, as tens of thousands were forced to evacuate their homes and at least five people have died.

“That statement will not be in any leadership books,” Kilmeade said. “No one cares about your personal thing as president. They care about the thousands of people who had everything lost and the five that are dead. President Biden marking the birth of his first great grandchild as he takes no questions which is an insult to the people, not to the press, to the people while joining Governor Newsom at a news conference yesterday as fire rages across Los Angeles.”

Following the president’s announcement, briefing attendees could be heard congratulating him before White House staff ushered him out of the event without the 82-year-old answering any questions. Biden was initially scheduled to travel to Coachella Valley to designate two national monuments, though the plans were canceled once the wildfires spread across the Los Angeles area.

Many residents’ homes have perished in the fires as their neighborhoods caught ablaze throughout Tuesday and Wednesday. With the combination of heavy winds, the fires spread across Pacific Palisades, a Los Angeles coastal town, and reached the inland areas of Pasadena and Altadena, California.

Many residents told the Daily Caller News Foundation Wednesday that they were ordered to evacuate their homes without any warning and had not expected to lose their homes.

Democratic Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass came under fire after she traveled to Ghana during the wildfires. Sky News reporter David Blevins caught the mayor off guard as he confronted her on “being absent” during the natural disaster.
