The oldest Catholic university in the nation employs queer professors who openly subvert Catholic prayers and teach courses on pornography and gender theory, leaving some students furious over the “ridicule” and “betrayal.”
Amanda Phillips, a self-described “butch/transmasculine, Latinx” individual who goes by “they/he/she” pronouns, teaches several courses at Georgetown University revolving around gender, privilege, and even pornography. Meanwhile, adjunct lecturer Casey Catherine Moore posted a video of her “Bipolar Lady’s Prayer,” which changes the words from the Lord’s prayer to read “give us this day our daily drugs.”
Georgetown University is the nation’s oldest Catholic university.
In a class scheduled for fall 2026, Phillips plans to teach students about “the changing aesthetics, production, and distribution of pornography,” including how “the social and political conflicts that attend pornography … have been used to control marginalized populations including women, queer and trans folks, and people of color,” according to the course’s description on Georgetown’s website.
Phillips’ other courses include “Gaming & Justice,” which teaches “strategies of resistance to the often problematic content and practices of the video game industry,” and “Queer Pixelation, Trans Coding,” which examines “queer and trans embodiments, representations, and productions in computational and digital media” and “is grounded in queer of color and trans of color critique and approaches these topics from an explicitly anti-racist position.”
“Core questions of the course include: Are computers and digital media fundamentally queer? What do these technologies teach us about gender and embodiment? How have queer and trans people influenced the history and development of computing? How has the development of computing influenced the history of queer and trans communities? How do queer and trans people use digital media to explore their own identities and connect with one another?” the course description reads.
Georgetown University did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
“It’s appalling to see Georgetown offer a class that runs in direct contrast to this school’s Catholic values and Jesuit history,” Shae McInnis, president of the university’s College Republicans chapter and member of Georgetown’s Catholic community, told the DCNF. “Georgetown prides itself on being an institution devoted to deep intellectual inquiry oriented towards the common good; it’s a shame that it would taint its own identity by sanctioning this disgusting filth.”
Moore, who describes herself as a “bipolar, bisexual” poet and educator, posted a video in 2024 reading a poem entitled “Bipolar Lady’s Prayer” to Saint Dymphna, the patroness of those suffering from mental illnesses. The poem rewrites the Lord’s Prayer, replacing phrases such as “give us this day our daily bread” to instead read “give us this day our daily drugs.”
“Our sanity, who are in the clouds, shrouded be thy name,” Moore says. “Insanity comes, it will be run, from the souls of your feet ’til your mind’s undone. Give us this day our daily drugs, and forgive us for misunderstanding our wrongs, as we forgive those who misunderstand us. And lead us not into obsession, but deliver us from oblivion. Amen.”
The poem was part of a series meant to spotlight “LGBTQ+ poets” during “Pride month.”
“As our nation’s oldest Catholic school, it’s sad that Georgetown would be willing to disrespect its strong Catholic community to appease the most deranged and godless voices of the ideological left,” McInnis continued.
Several other professors at the nominally Catholic university focus on gender, feminism and sexuality topics, some even specialize in the intersection of gender and religion.
Professor Julia Watts Belser for instance researches “gender, sexuality, and disability in rabbinic literature, as well as queer feminist Jewish ethics and theology,” according to her university biography. One course she teaches titled “Judaism and Gender” examines “the way transgender Jews are shaping new conceptions of Jewish gender.”
“A rabbi and a longtime advocate for disability and gender justice, Belser writes queer feminist Jewish theology and brings disability arts and culture into conversation with Jewish tradition,” Georgetown’s website reads.
Another professor in the healthcare field has “expertise” in topics such as “Health Equity,” “LGBTQIA+ Health Care,” “Sex-Positive Reproductive Care,” “Trans-Affirming Health Care” and “Weight Bias.”
“I’m deeply disheartened to see our university stray so far from its moral foundations,” a Catholic student at Georgetown who asked to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation, told the DCNF. “Georgetown’s willingness to promote content that ridicules the teachings of the Church feels like a betrayal of what this university should stand for.”
