ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith told Democratic strategist James Carville that he admired him despite the fact that he often seemed “crazy” during a Thursday episode of Carville’s “Politics War Room” podcast.

Carville has frequently acted erratically while attacking President Donald Trump during his second term. Smith told Carville on the podcast that he related to him because neither was frightened of challenges.

“I know who I am. I know what I stand for. I know that I support my community. I know that I support an abundance of communities out there, and I’m rooting for America always, all the time,” Smith said. “So, folks don’t scare me at all. Sometimes you got to get in people’s you know what and let them know what the hell they need to do to get stuff straight so all of us in America can live together as one and get along as best as we possibly can, as opposed to being as polarized as we are right now.”

“I’m not scared of that challenge one bit,” he continued. “And you’ve never been either, which is why I’ve always had love for you, James, even though I think you’re crazy half the time.”

Carville unleashed a barrage of curse words and insults in what he said was a “personal message” to Trump during a February Politicon video ahead of the president’s Feb. 24 State of the Union address.

“I have a personal message for Donald John Trump. And you sit still, you son of a bitch, when I’m telling you this. I’m going to tell you right where you are, you fat sorry sack of shit,” Carville said. “People hate you. And I’m not just saying this because I don’t like you. I’m saying this because I’m telling you what’s happening to you right now.”

Smith criticized Carville for the video in a subsequent episode of SiriusXM’s “Straight Shooter with Stephen A.”

“Does he seem a bit off the rail right now? Judge for yourself,” Smith said before playing Carville’s video.

“Oh my God,” he said as the video played. “Do we have to listen to any more of this? Cut this off.”

Smith noted his “respect” for Carville’s career after cutting off the video, but said the Democratic strategist’s rhetoric was ineffective.

“What the hell is wrong with people!?” Smith asked. “I cannot believe this!”
