Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett claimed Tuesday, before losing a Democratic primary, that Republicans had “specifically targeted Dallas County” after the Texas Supreme Court temporarily halted an order extending voting hours there.
Texas’ highest court blocked the decision to keep polls open until 10 p.m. EST — following various reports of confusion among Democratic voters at polling sites — after Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton appealed, claiming he had not received proper notice of the ruling, The Hill reported on Tuesday.
Crockett alleged during a campaign event on Tuesday evening that Republicans had “targeted” the county, adding “unfortunately, this is what Republicans like to do,” Fox News reported on Wednesday.
“Knowing that Dallas County is a big dump of votes, we, in my opinion, will not know the election results overall tonight,” Crockett said during the event, Fox News reported.
“So, that’s my news, is that we’re not going to have election results tonight, in my opinion, based upon what specifically is taking place in Dallas County,” Crockett continued. “Unfortunately, this is what Republicans like to do. And, so, they specifically targeted Dallas County, and I think we all know why.”
Crockett also stated that “I can tell you now that people have been disenfranchised,” adding “in my opinion, we will not know the election results overall tonight,” the outlet reported.
Crockett’s campaign did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
Texas State Rep. James Talarico defeated Crockett in Tuesday’s Texas Senate Democratic primary, notching 52.8% of the vote to Crockett’s 45.9%, according to NBC News. Crockett notably chose to leave her Tuesday election night watch party early, Politico reported.
Crockett wrote in a Wednesday X post that she had called Talarico that morning to congratulate him on his Democratic primary win.
“Texas is primed to turn blue and we must remain united because this is bigger than any one person,” she wrote in her post. “This is about the future of all 30 million Texans and getting America back on track. With the primary behind us, Democrats must rally around our nominees and win. I’m committed to doing my part and will continue working to elect democrats up and down the ballot.”
Republican Texas State Rep. James Frank wrote in a seemingly sarcastic X post on Tuesday “so apparently Republicans cheated Crockett out of the Democratic nomination,” adding “[it is] hard to make this stuff up!!”
Senate Leadership Fund Executive Director Alex Latcham said in a statement on Wednesday that “by nominating James Talarico, Texas Democrats have once again chosen a Far-Left liberal who is wildly out of step with Lone Star voters.”
Talarico wrote in a Wednesday morning X post following his primary win that Democrats are “about to take back Texas.”
