Actor Robert De Niro said three times on Monday’s edition of “The Best People with Nicolle Wallace” that it was necessary to “get rid of” President Donald Trump.
The podcast release followed U.S. Secret Service agents shooting and killing a man attempting to force his way into Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida on Sunday. De Niro also claimed on the podcast that “Trump is the enemy of this country” and would refuse to ever leave the White House.

“He won’t leave. Let’s not kid ourselves,” De Niro said. “He will not leave. It’s up to us to get rid of him.”
De Niro doubled down on his rhetoric just one minute later.
“He’s an idiot. We got to get rid of him,” he said. “He’s gonna ruin the country — everything that this country has worked for, represents. He is ruining it and it’s right before your eyes.”
“It’s time for us who’ve taken this country for granted to stand up and get rid of this guy,” De Niro also said minutes later.
Moreover, De Niro cried while discussing Trump at the end of the podcast.
The Sunday shooting followed two assassination attempts on Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign.
The president’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, argued on “Fox & Friends” Monday that incendiary rhetoric likely led to the incident.
“[W]henever you just casually throw around terms like Nazi, like fascist, like Hitler and racist, what do you think the consequences of that ultimately will be? We are better than this as a country,” she said. “And I’ll tell you as a family member, I keep wondering how many chances does one man get? He’s not gonna be lucky enough at some point. Thank God he wasn’t at Mar-a-Lago and the first lady wasn’t there this weekend. But you don’t get lucky every single time.”
Trump was also shot in his right ear during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2024. The president’s former physician and Republican Texas Rep. Ronny Jackson wrote that the bullet came “less than a quarter of an inch from entering his head” in a medical update one week afterward.
Furthremore, Secret Service thwarted a second assassination attempt after an agent discovered Ryan Wesley Routh hiding in the bushes with a rifle while Trump was golfing at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sept. 15, 2024.
