Hoover Institution senior fellow Victor Davis Hanson ridiculed Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s knowledge following her disastrous performance overseas during a Thursday episode of  “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.”

Ocasio-Cortez made multiple gaffes during her trip, including a 40-second rambling answer when asked if the U.S. should send troops to protect Taiwan if China invades the contested Asian island at the Munich Security Conference on Feb. 13.  Hanson said on his podcast Ocasio-Cortez was completely ignorant of foreign affairs and that it backfired on her.

“She knows nothing. Nothing. She doesn’t know anything. She was a barista that was kind of cute and glib — and she got elected in a surprise win where nobody really took her seriously,” Hanson said. “And then she went into the Latina DEI and ‘The Squad’ — and she never did any homework. She doesn’t know anything.”

Hanson said Ocasio-Cortez’s lack of knowledge led to her widely panned answer on Taiwan. He said if he answered a question like she did on his podcast, he would rapidly lose his audience, imitating Ocasio-Cortez to his co-host Jack Fowler.

“I would say, ‘Jack, um, well, uh, of course, as you know, it’s a very important question you asked, uh, you know, uh, Jack, uh, and I’ve been thinking about the, the, the, the conference and it’s important, and we worry about it, and it’s something, um, you know, you know that, uh, um, that I, um, I’ve thought a lot about,” Hanson said.

“Well, we wouldn’t have an audience, and we shouldn’t have an audience, in about 24 hours. Well, that’s what she did. She didn’t know anything about Taiwan,” he added. “She knows nothing of the history of Taiwan. She doesn’t know the history of the Korean War … And so she thought she was going to have a presence. And it kind of boomeranged.”

In addition to Ocasio-Cortez’s Taiwan answer, she falsely asserted that Venezuela was “below the equator” during Sunday remarks at Technical University of Berlin’s TEDx event. She also attempted to mock Secretary of State Marco Rubio for factually stating that Spanish explorers brought horses to Mexico at the same event.

Moreover, Ocasio-Cortez complained to The New York Times on Monday about how conservatives’ short online clips of her missteps eclipsed her talking points.

Former Democratic strategist Dan Turrentine said that her griping to the NYT was baffling on a Tuesday episode of “The Huddle.”

“It’s pathetic and embarrassing for her to make this kind of whining argument when your calling card is that you’re kind of the party queen of social media,” Turrentine said. “So I don’t understand what she was doing … This just now has more and more people kind of laughing at her within the party. It’s amazing.”
