A Minnesota man blasted his state’s Somali community and George Floyd’s family in a video which went viral Sunday — for receiving millions of dollars and putting “nothing in the community.”

While speaking to The Scoop, he condemned Somalis, who he said “ain’t our people,” for the estimated $9 billion in funds stolen from social services in the state — a scandal in which those charged have been overwhelmingly of Somali descent. He also cursed at Floyd’s family for receiving a settlement of over $20 million and failing to “build a community in the city” with that money.

“Look at all that money that they stole! Look at all that $9 billion dollars and then put nothing in the community. Fuck them Somalians. It’s just like George Floyd. His stupid ass family got $20 million and they didn’t even build a community in the city,” he said. “They just left with the money. Fuck George Floyd, too.”

“When you don’t fuck with the community and help with the community, fuck you,” he added. “They took that money and left. Now look at them. They all broke. They got tricked out of all that money. They ain’t got shit right now today. Off of $20 million. Come on, man. We’re playing with the game. All this shit is a farce.”

Federal prosecutors have convicted 57 defendants in the case revolving around the nonprofit, Feeding Our Future, in which dozens of people, mostly of Somali descent, stole over $350 million from the program. YouTuber Nick Shirley also exposed several Somali daycare centers, including the misspelled and now shuttered “Quality Learing Center.”

Five of the 10 daycare centers visited by Shirley operated as meal sites for Feeding Our Future, a program at the center of a $300 million scam that provided meals to children during the COVID-19 pandemic. Between 2018 and 2021, those five businesses received nearly $5 million from Feeding Our Future, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune. One facility, the Minnesota Best Childcare Center, received $1.5 million from the organization.

Democrats, such as Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, defended the Somalis while the reports of their fraudulent actions came to light. Democratic Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said that Somalis were part of the community’s family, while Minnesota Democratic Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan appeared on a Somali TV station wearing a hijab.

Protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have also become widespread in Minnesota in response to the death of Renee Good, who was fatally shot by an ICE agent after hitting him with her vehicle. Good’s family hired the same law firm that represented Floyd’s family, which secured a $27 million settlement in 2021 in connection to his death during a traffic stop in May 2020.
