President Donald Trump on Tuesday declared that “help is on its way” to Iran amid widespread anti-government protests, which have reportedly left over 1,000 demonstrators dead and thousands more detained as security forces attempt to suppress dissent.
The unrest began in late December in response to Iran’s struggling economy under Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The regime has responded with a violent crackdown on political opposition while accusing Trump and the U.S. of fueling the uprising.
Trump, who said Sunday that the U.S. “stands ready to help,” took to his Truth Social platform Tuesday to post, “HELP IS ON ITS WAY.”
“Iranian Patriots, KEEP PROTESTING – TAKE OVER YOUR INSTITUTIONS!!! Save the names of the killers and abusers. They will pay a big price,” Trump wrote.
The president also announced he has canceled all meetings with Iranian officials until the killing of protesters — which the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency reports has now surpassed 2,000 — ceases.
Trump’s statement comes as reports indicate he has been briefed on a range of covert and military options for use in Iran.
Meanwhile, Khamenei has accused the protesters of acting on Trump’s behalf, warning that the Islamic Republic would not yield to what he described as U.S.-backed chaos.
“The great Iranian nation has asserted its resolve and identity in the face of the enemies. This was a warning to US politicians that they should halt their deceitful actions and stop relying on their traitorous hirelings,” Khamenei wrote on X Monday.
