Jasmine Crockett Gives Rambling Word Salad Answer

Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett gave a meandering answer on “The Joy Reid Show” Wednesday when Reid asked her how she can appeal to President Donald Trump’s voters during her Senate campaign.

Crockett suggested in a December 2024 Vanity Fair profile that Latino Trump voters have a “slave mentality” because they oppose illegal immigration. When Reid posed the question on her show about how Crockett could win over this demographic in her state, the Senate candidate rambled for several minutes without offering a specific strategy.

“How do you flip Latino voters in a state where, I mean, nationwide, 55% of Latino men voted for Trump? Those numbers have dropped nationwide, but his people are still his people,” Reid said. “And pulling out more Latino voters in Texas, getting them to come out, that doesn’t necessarily mean they vote for the Democrat. They might vote for the Republican.”

“This is a very good point. So, so far in polling that we’ve seen, when it comes down to Texans and Latinos, we only have about one fifth of them right now that are regretting their vote,” Crockett said.

She then launched into a tangent about the minimum wage, health care access and her efforts to secure resources for a hospital in the Rio Grande Valley.

Crockett argued that her most significant achievement in Congress was not her viral 2024 clash with Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, but getting an Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) location in her district. She described the process behind the achievement and the importance of it, but did not appear to draw a clear connection to wooing Latino Trump voters.

“I’ve been down to the valley, not only on official business, but I’ve been to the valley to campaign on behalf of Beto [O’Rourke] and others. And so I know what issues they’re going through and I know what the healthcare looks like. I know that healthcare is actually a really big thing,” she said. “And again, when we start to study kind of some of the things that are really plaguing different communities, I think talking about these things and recognizing that, frankly, some people want to put, you know, like, oh, let’s put the blacks over here and they got their own issues, and Latinos over here and they got their own issues —  honestly, we all got the same core issues, like to be perfectly honest.”

“And, you know, I think the racial profiling has picked up for the Latino community. But that’s something that we share too. Like, we’ve always had that as an issue as well,” she added. “But now it doesn’t matter your status. I mean, we are living in a show-me-your-paper state, and it’s been sanctioned by Trump’s Supreme Court. Again, a lot of my issues go back to the Supreme Court, and it is the Senate, you know. So yeah.”

Crockett is a far-left congresswoman, who is known for her shouting and slew of controversies. She announced on Monday that she would attempt to unseat Republican Texas Sen. John Cornyn.

Her campaign immediately became the subject of mockery.

During a Tuesday appearance on “The Lead with Jake Tapper,” Crockett denied saying Latino Trump voters have a “slave mentality” despite Tapper reading her Vanity Fair remarks back to her.

Crockett also compared U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to “slave patrols” on “The Breakfast Club” in September.

Trump won a majority of the Hispanic male vote in November 2024.
