Daily Caller News Foundation co-founder Tucker Carlson told Vice President J.D. Vance on Monday that he admired Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk’s ability to have fond feelings for those who disagreed with him.
Carlson said on “The Charlie Kirk Show” that Kirk taught him to have more tolerance for those with opposing viewpoints and never forget that “there was a person behind those views.” Vance guest hosted Kirk’s program where he honored the Turning Point USA founder’s legacy with those who knew him, including White House deputy chief of staff for policy Stephen Miller.
“The main thing I learned from him was how to disagree with people on topics that you take very seriously, and that they take very seriously without hating them [or] without feeling bitterness,” Carlson said. “I mean, people knew what was going on behind the scenes, there was a lot going on behind the scenes and it was intense and it was bitter and you know, because the divide, particularly on foreign policy questions, is very real in the Republican Party. The neocons versus the realists. He was on the realist side for sure, but he was never mad at the people who disagreed with him.”

Even when Carlson used privately vulgar language toward those he was mad at, Kirk always took the high road and looked beyond people’s political differences, Carlson said.
“[Kirk] would never talk like that. He would say ‘well, I agree with them on this. Obviously I’m on your side on that.’ He just never forgot that there was a person behind these views and that inspired me and God commands that of us. That’s a real commandment in my opinion and he lived it,” Carlson said.
Vance added that Kirk had genuine love for people and wanted them to have a real relationship with God. Kirk always showed people respect, especially with those he vehemently disagreed with, Vance added.
The vice president concluded the program by warning that political violence is disproportionately coming from the far-left and that Americans must fight to “shine the light of truth like a torch in the very darkest places” in order to truly honor Kirk’s legacy.
