Author Nels Abbey compared Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk to former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard David Duke and white supremacists during a Thursday segment on “Good Morning Britain.”

Kirk died on Wednesday from a gunshot wound to the neck during a TPUSA event at Utah Valley University. Abbey falsely claimed that Kirk was a “supremacist” rather than a conservative for expressing views that he appeared to disagree with.

“I believe he was a David Duke for the TikTok age … This isn’t by no means trying to justify his murder,” Abbey said. “Political violence is wrong at home, it is wrong abroad. It is also wrong, political violence must be condemned as must be the propagandizing for political violence and the dehumanization of people. Charlie Kirk was somebody who was, I shiver, particularly at conservatives when he’s described as conservative. Because he wasn’t a conservative by any means whatsoever. He was quite clearly and comfortably a supremacist.”

Abbey alleged that Kirk, a devout Christian, was extremist due to holding pro-life views. He then baselessly accused Kirk of helping to legitimize violence for women, minorities and Jewish people.

“He thought he was somewhat invincible and sadly, it happened to him,” Abbey said. “And finally, the very sort of people he helped dehumanize or so, the minorities, the women, the Jewish people, so on and so forth, and now the exact same thing that he almost helped to legitimize for them has happened to him. It’s sad, it’s wrong. But he too, there’s more of a lesson here to recognize your own vulnerability. Be more empathetic, don’t dehumanize people, don’t propagandize for people’s murder. It could happen to you.”

Kirk hosted events and debated people from all across the political spectrum, which even included some who identified as transgender. He encouraged young people to attend forums where open debate flourished.

Charles H.F. Davis, a left-wing professor at the University of Michigan, stated on X that Kirk’s assassination is a “solution” to “violent rhetoric spewed by empowered people.” MSNBC fired political analyst Matthew Dowd for alleging that Kirk’s so-called “hate speech” led to his own assassination.

The FBI in Salt Lake City released photographs of the assassin on Thursday, which showed a young adult male wearing a black sweatshirt with an American flag, a dark cap and sunglasses. Authorities are offering an $100,000 award for any leads that result in the assailant’s arrest.

Authorities recorded a high-powered, bolt-action rifle in a wooded area and cartridges that contained pro-transgender and pro-Antifa messages.
