‘Only Solace … Is That He Woke Up In Hell’: Fox’s Kennedy Blasts Ford Jr.’s Gun Control Push As ‘Not The Answer’

Fox’s Kennedy pushed back on fellow co-host and former Democrat Tennessee Rep. Harold Ford Jr. on “The Five” Wednesday, saying his call for more gun control following a Minneapolis mass shooting is “not the answer.”

A trans-identifying male, identified by authorities as Robin Westman, murdered two children and injured at least 17 people at the Annunciation Catholic School in Minnesota on Wednesday. While discussing the shooting, Ford Jr. pushed for more restrictions on buyers.

Following his remarks, Fox’s Jesse Watters asked Kennedy if she would support barring members of the trans community from purchasing firearms.

“No, I think there are trans people who are stalked, and they are terrorized, and they worry about their own self-protection, and they deserve to protect themselves. I worry about someone who has ever gone to the doctor and says, ‘You know, I feel a little anxious. Can you prescribe me some Xanax for a plane?’ And then all of a sudden their name goes on some federal database,” Kennedy said. “And they can never get a weapon to defend themselves. There are plenty of laws keeping good people from buying guns and ammunition.”

“We talked to Joe, our local sporting goods guy. And he’s furious that people who deserve to protect themselves and their families, for people who enjoy a sporting life, that they are not capable to go in and buy a weapon without some sort of registry,” Kennedy added. “Yes, this person was mentally ill. It’s not the trans part. It’s the part that he was absolutely, completely evil. In places like Minnesota, they do have red flag laws, and his parents should have known, and parents should be nosy, absolutely.”

Westman, a man in his early 20s, changed his name from Robert to Robin in 2019 after identifying as a woman. Authorities later said during a press conference that Westman opened fire through a window of the Annunciation Catholic Church during Mass, killing an eight-year-old and a 10-year-old.

Following the attack, Democrats pushed for stricter gun control and pressed the Trump administration to act. Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki wrote on X that “prayers” are “not freaking enough” to stop school shootings, calling for an end to “thoughts and prayers.”

Kennedy said that those who “deserve self-protection” should not have their firearms taken away, while Ford Jr. pushed back, saying he was only calling for “longer checks.”

“I wish there were someone there to put a bullet between this little a-hole’s eyes before he was able to pull a trigger. The only solace I have is that when he took his own cowardly life — which he should have done in the parking lot before he got out of his car — is that he woke up in hell. That is the only comfort that I have,” Kennedy said. “And taking guns away from good people who deserve self-protection, I’m sorry, it’s not the answer here.”

“I’m not saying take it away,” Ford Jr. responded. “I’m saying we ought to have longer checks for things like this. I’m not even saying that people — I agree with you, people who ask for some Xanax to go on a plane or to do something, that’s totally different. I’m only saying we ought to have a longer background period to investigate all these things. If it means we inconvenience someone who wants to fly, 10 people, 100 people, we’re able to prevent these kinds of things. That’s all I’m saying. And we can have a conversation. I’m not saying limit. I’m saying let’s investigate further.”

After killing and injuring those in the Annunciation Catholic Church, Westman later died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the back of the building. Videos of the gunman’s manifesto had been uploaded to a YouTube account which bore Westman’s name, showing disturbing footage of multiple guns, cartridges and ammunition with cryptic statements written on them. Phrases like, “Where is your God?”, “6 million wasn’t enough,” “kill pedos” and calls to kill President Donald Trump could be seen as the cartridges were shown to the camera.
