Former FBI criminal profiler James Fitzgerald said Wednesday on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” that investigators should review the toxicology report of the trans-identifying male who opened fire at the Annunciation Catholic Church to help determine his motive.
Alleged gunman Robin Westman, a male in his 20s who has been identified by authorities, opened fire at the church in Minnesota, killing two children and injuring at least 17 others. While discussing details already made public by officials, host Laura Ingraham asked Fitzgerald what stood out to him so far.
“Well, first of all, Laura, it was about two and a half years ago, I was on the show with you after the Nashville shooting. And we said, ‘Get that manifesto out there, even though my FBI people didn’t.’ Ironically, you talked about the front of this killer’s shirt from today, which said something. The back of it said, ‘Let’s do this before the anxiety kicks in,” Fitzgerald said. “Ironically or not, the Nashville person wrote in that journal, ‘God, let my wrath take over my anxiety.'”

“So, obviously, anxiety plays a big factor in this. They are, in fact, concerned about this. There are all kinds of psychological issues here. I always talked in the past about psychological autopsies being conducted on these people. But they really need to get into the physical autopsy and the toxicology in this blood,” Fitzgerald added. “Going back to this kid’s childhood. There’s a toxicological porridge here of something in this person that makes these young men today go out and do this. I think we’ll see that history in this person, along with other psychological, environmental issues that caused him to finally do what he did today.”
In 2019, Westman changed his name from Robert to Robin after identifying as a woman. According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, court records show that while Westman was still a minor, his mother, who worked at the Annunciation Catholic Church, applied to change his name from Robert Paul to Robin M. The application said the change was necessary because Westman “identifies as a female and wants her name to reflect that identification.”
During a press conference on Wednesday, officials said Westman opened fire through a window of the Annunciation Catholic Church during Mass, killing an eight-year-old and a 10-year-old. Before authorities were able to get to him, Westman died of a self-inflicted gun wound at the back of the church.
Videos of the gunman’s manifesto were uploaded to a YouTube account which bore Westman’s name, showing disturbing footage of multiple guns, cartridges and ammunition with cryptic statements written on them. Phrases like, “Where is your God?,” “6 million wasn’t enough,” “kill pedos” and calls to kill President Donald Trump could be seen as the cartridges were shown to the camera.
FBI Director Kash Patel took to X on Wednesday, saying that the department is investigating the shooting “as an act of domestic terrorism and hate crime targeting Catholics.”
