Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy delighted President Donald Trump on Monday when he arrived at the White House in a suit ahead of their meeting alongside European leaders.

At the White House’s request, Zelenskyy arrived at the White House wearing an all-black suit ahead of his meeting with Trump and other European leaders about ending the Russia-Ukraine war. Trump appeared thrilled with Zelenskyy’s attire in footage taken by White House special assistant Margo Martin, especially given that he has expressed annoyance by the Ukrainian president’s casual attire in the past.

“I cannot believe it! I love it! Look at that,” Trump said.

Zelenskyy reportedly wore the same black jacket that he donned for the NATO summit in June. Since the war broke out in February 2022, Zelenskyy has worn military-style outfits, polo and collared shirts at formal events.

While the two leaders took questions from reporters in the Oval Office, Real America’s Voice chief White House correspondent Brian Glenn told Zelenskyy he looked “fabulous” in the suit.

“President Zelenskyy, you look fabulous in that suit,” Glenn said.

“I said the same thing,” Trump replied. “That’s the one that attacked you last time.”

The meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy went smoothly in comparison to the Ukrainian president’s last visit in February, where an explosive rift between them prompted Trump to cancel a joint press conference. At that meeting, Zelenskyy stated that he would wear a suit once the war in Ukraine had ended.

A designer for Zelenskyy told Politico that he would not comply with the White House’s request and opted for a “military-style” outfit.

Trump and Zelenskyy’s meeting came after he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday in an attempt to reach an agreement about ending the war. The president said that while he and Putin did not reach a deal, he expressed optimism that a future peace deal may be on the table in the near future.
