U.S. Border Patrol agents conducted a raid on Thursday outside of the venue where Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom spoke and announced a redistricting plan, FOX 11 Los Angeles reported.
Newsom said during his remarks that his state will hold a special election on Nov. 4 “to provide a temporary pathway for congressional maps,” in response to Texas’ redistricting push, according to Fox 11. Video from Fox 11 shows Border Patrol detaining at least one man.

“We’re here making Los Angeles a safer place. Since we won’t have politicians that’ll do that, we did that ourselves,” Gregory Bovino, the Border Patrol chief for California’s El Centro sector told Fox 11. “So that’s why we’re here today … already making it a safer place. We’re glad to be here. Not going anywhere.”
Newsom’s agenda of redrawing the state’s congressional maps to help Democrats involves transferring redistricting authority from the state’s constitutionally-mandated independent commission to the state Legislature, which requires approval from a statewide referendum in November.
Texas’ redistricting plan could net Republicans up to five seats in the House of Representatives.
Democrats in the Texas state Senate walked off the floor Tuesday, but did not prevent passage of new congressional districts in that body. It passed by a 19-2 vote following nine Democratic state senators walking out, the Texas Tribune reported.
Democrats in the Texas House of Representatives fled to Democratic-controlled states like New York and Illinois attempting to thwart a special session of the body to consider the proposed redistricting. The Texas Democratic lawmakers have since relented.
Bovino delivered a message on Fox News in July to illegal migrants, saying there was “no sanctuary anywhere” after agents conducted a raid in Sacramento, California, where officials made over ten arrests.
“Sacramento is not a sanctuary city. The state of California is not a sanctuary state,” Bovino said. “There is no sanctuary anywhere. We’ll be here. You’ll probably see us in many of the locations as well. We’re here to stay. We’re not going anywhere. We’re going to effect this mission and secure the homeland.”
