Radio host Charlamagne tha God on Thursday did not express excitement on his radio show, “The Breakfast Club,” about the possibility of former Vice President Kamala Harris running for president again in 2028.
Harris announced on X Wednesday that she would not run for governor of California after reports she was weighing whether to seek the governorship or the presidency. Charlamagne reacted to Harris’ decision on the “Front Page News” segment of “The Breakfast Club” by conveying uncertainty about whether he would like to see a 2028 run and urged her to author a book and launch a podcast.

“I think Kamala can definitely be a leader in the Democratic Party. And I mean, I think the interesting thing about the former VP is I kind of like that strategy,” Charlamagne said. “Because you think about it over the last, what, five, six years — every time the VP has been out and about, it’s kind of been transactional, right?”
“‘Cause 2020, she ran for President of the United States of America. And then she became the VP. And then she became the Democratic nominee last year. So it’s kind of like every time you see her in front of people, she’s kind of asking for something,” he continued. “I think now she just gives people the opportunity to get to know her. I don’t think people ever really got the opportunity to get to know her. And if you actually get to know her, you’ll like her. And I don’t think people ever got that opportunity.”
Harris wrote in her statement that she was excited about working on “helping elect Democrats” nationwide and “sharing more details in the months ahead” regarding her future aspirations.
Co-host DJ Envy noted Harris’ 2024 campaign was short-lived as it started on July 21, 2024, when former President Joe Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed her.
“I don’t know if she should run again, but I definitely would like to see her write a book. I definitely would like to see her start a podcast and just build a real connection with people,” Charlamagne added. “And she is relatively young. I just don’t know what’s going to happen in 2028, man. I just think Democrats suck so bad. I don’t know.”
Charlamagne said on “The Lead with Jake Tapper” that he “absolutely would endorse” Harris the day after she entered the race. He also repeatedly defended Harris during her short campaign when callers on “The Breakfast Club” criticized her.
Democratic Delaware Sen. Chris Coons similarly did not express enthusiasm on “The Story with Martha MacCallum” Wednesday when host Martha MacCallum asked if he would support Harris if she planned to run again in 2028.
“Martha, 2028 is a long way off,” Coons said. “And first we need to focus on the challenges right in front of us here in Congress.”
Harris announced on X Thursday that she had written a book about her 2024 presidential campaign titled “107 Days” that will be published in September.
