Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett on Thursday alleged that former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey “framed” President Donald Trump using the debunked Steele Dossier.

CIA Director John Ratcliffe referred Brennan and Comey to the FBI, which launched a criminal investigation for making false statements to Congress, Fox News reported. Jarrett accused Brennan and Comey of “manipulating the system,” saying the national-security officials “abused their power” by targeting Trump.

“I think Americans already knew that,” Jarrett told “Fox and Friends” guest host Sandra Smith. “You know, I wrote two books on the subject, the Mueller report came out and confirmed what I wrote, that so much was based on a phony document known as the dossier, paid for by Hillary Clinton and Democrats and then commandeered by those two guys John Brennan and James Comey.”

“They manipulated the system. The document itself, they abused their power,” Jarrett continued. “Comey launched the case against Trump in violation of the FBI regulations, he deceived the FISA court with the dossier to gain a spy warrant and, you know, John Brennan took that dossier, knowing that it was garbage and he insisted that it be put in the intelligence community assessment. And even though you know, he knew it was such a phony document, if I put it in the intel assessment, it will elevate the credibility, we can drive Trump from office.”

Brennan denied wrongdoing during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Deadline: White House,” hosted by Nicolle Wallace, claiming the Obama administration CIA “stayed true” and didn’t try to influence the election.

“He told Congress in in his testimony, ‘Oh no, that wasn’t in the assessment.’ Well, it was,” Jarrett told Smith. “So, did he lie? Can he be charged? Arguably, yes, he can.”

In testimony before Congress about his report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign, special counsel Robert Mueller stated that the allegations attorney Michael Sussman, who represented the Democratic National Committee, forwarded to the FBI were false. Sussman was acquitted on charges of lying to the FBI by a Washington, D.C. , jury in May 2022.

MSNBC hosts and guests routinely hyped the claims that Trump’s 2016 campaign colluded with the Russian government to defeat former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and repeatedly had then-Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff of California, who often made claims about alleged collusion between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russia, on the air. The Steele Dossier, which was used to further allegations of collusion, was later discredited.

Comey did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
