Left-Wing Pundits Cite Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ To Float Theory That Midterms Will Be Rigged

Left-wing media pundits are already suggesting that the 2026 midterm elections will be rigged in favor of the Republican Party.

Democratic strategist James Carville, former MSNBC host Joy Reid and radio host Charlamagne Tha God in July each propagated theories of upcoming rigged midterm elections. All three pundits cited President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” as at least part of the basis for their claims.

Carville said on “CUOMO” Wednesday that he expected Democrats to win the Virginia and New Jersey races in a landslide this November, arguing that a resounding Democratic victory and the unpopularity of Trump’s bill could provoke the president into declaring a “national emergency” to meddle in the midterms.

“I think he’s going to see that this ‘big, beautiful bill’ is about 25 points underwater. It’s going to be 30 points underwater. He’s going to see a massive defeat coming and he’s going to try to do anything he can to extricate himself in that defeat,” Carville said. “And I would not put it at all past him to try to call martial law or declare that there’s some kind of national emergency in the country or anything like that. Because the hoof prints are coming and you can hear them. And they’re going to get a shellacking in November of 2026.”

The House of Representatives passed Trump’s “big, beautiful” bill on Thursday, sending it to the president’s desk.

The same day, Reid said on “The Left Hook with Wajahat Ali” that she believed it was “insane, honestly, to just assume we’re going to have normal elections next year,” citing Republicans voting for the bill after opposing it.

“[Republicans are] not actually worried about getting reelected,” she added. “If they feared being reelected, they would not vote for this bill — because they know it’s going to devastate their states.”

Charlamagne similarly suggested on “The Breakfast Club” Tuesday that Republicans’ confidence in the midterms — even after passing the bill — could signal they already expect a predetermined outcome.

“[I]f the GOP doesn’t seem to be concerned about that, then what does that tell y’all, folks?” Charlamagne said. “Fight is probably already fixed when it comes to the midterm elections and 2028.”

“I just feel like if something is political suicide, if you’re using that kind of language for a bill and you pass it anyway, then you know something that the rest of us don’t know,” he added. “Or you know something that the rest of us do know. And we just sitting around waiting for the inevitable to happen. Free and fair elections, my ass. We’ll see in a couple of years though.”

Trump signed the sweeping legislation into law on Friday. It contains a permanent extension of the president’s 2017 tax cuts and delivers on his campaign pledges to eliminate taxes on tips and overtime pay, and permanently raise the child tax credit to $2,200.

Democrats have been hysterical regarding the bill’s passage, warning Americans would die as a result of changes to Medicaid benefits.
