Radio host Charlamagne Tha God speculated on Tuesday that President Donald Trump might try to eliminate Russian President Vladimir Putin due to the baseless allegation that Russia holds compromising information on Trump.
Russia reportedly launched its largest drone attack of the Ukraine war on Sunday after Trump expressed growing frustration with Putin. Charlamagne, on “The Breakfast Club,” suggested that rising tensions between the two leaders could spiral out of control, even hinting at the potential for nuclear war.

“I’ve been watching those exchanges, you know, and it’s like those two egos could be the end of civilization as we know it. Like I was thinking about that over the weekend … Putin and Trump,” Charlamagne said. “Like, you know how they always said Russia and Putin had something on Trump, and they talk about the pee tapes and all that other stuff, and you know, basically Russia had America in its pocket and they helped to steal the election? What if all that is true, right? Then Trump has no more use for Putin anymore. And, you know, wouldn’t you want to get the guy that allegedly has all of this blackmail material against you — wouldn’t you want to get him out of here?”
“So wouldn’t now be the time? I just don’t like when I hear him say, you know, ‘Putin’s crazy, he’s lost it,’ blah blah blah,” he added. “And then, you know, the Kremlin, and they throw a little shot back. Like, that could get stupid real fast.”
Journalist Morgyn Wood chimed in that the apparent tension could escalate into discussion of nuclear war, to which Charlamagne agreed.
“That would be the end of civilization as we know it,” Charlamagne said.
Russia’s Sunday attack on Ukraine directly followed Trump criticizing Putin to reporters, saying he was “not happy” with the attacks and didn’t know “what the hell happened” to the Russian president.
“I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY! He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers,” Trump posted to Truth Social shortly after. “Missiles and drones are being shot into Cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever. I’ve always said that he wants ALL of Ukraine, not just a piece of it, and maybe that’s proving to be right, but if he does, it will lead to the downfall of Russia!”
A Russian businessman with knowledge of the infamous “pee tapes” was informed they were fake, but opted not to tell Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen, special counsel Robert Mueller’s report revealed in 2019.
The tapes referred to Russian operatives allegedly filming Trump engaging in “golden showers” with Russian prostitutes when he stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Moscow. Trump denied the allegations.
Rumors of the tapes surfaced in a June 20, 2016, dossier written by former British spy Christopher Steele that Democrats funded.
Former Attorney General William Barr repeatedly said that Mueller found no evidence to verify that Trump or members of his campaign colluded with Russians to influence the 2016 election.
“After nearly two years of investigation, thousands of subpoenas, and hundreds of warrants and witness interviews, the special counsel confirmed that the Russian government sponsored efforts to illegally interfere with the 2016 presidential election but did not find that the Trump campaign or other Americans colluded in those schemes,” Barr said at a 2019 press conference.
