Ex-CNN Analyst Says ‘Jasmine Crockett Would Be A Disaster’ As Dem Nominee

Former CNN political analyst Chris Cillizza said Friday that Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett would be a disastrous presidential nominee for her party due to her far-left policies and tone.

Crockett, a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, has risen to prominence with her incendiary anti-Republican rhetoric, including calling wheelchair-bound Texas Gov. Greg Abbott “Governor Hot Wheels.” Cillizza, during a YouTube livestream, said Crockett appeals primarily to activist Democrats but would struggle in a general election — likening her to Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez..

“Jasmine Crockett would be a disaster as the Democratic nominee,” Cillizza said. “You think that AOC could cost Democrats? Jasmine Crockett is way more to the left and tonally — she’s probably similar in terms of issues — but tonally way to the left of AOC and way outside of the norms.”

“Jasmine Crockett is great if you’re a Democratic activist type. Fine, she’s saying everything you wanna hear,” he continued. “The problem is Democratic activists alone don’t win you the presidency or even come close.”

Crockett faced a question on “Inside Texas Politics” in March about potentially running in 2028. She said that her “authentic” personality likely precludes her from securing the White House.

She admitted in a March interview with “Lone Star Politics” that she was prioritizing resisting President Donald Trump over passing legislation in Congress.

“I should probably be a better politician and tell you, ‘Yes, we’ve got all this amazing legislation that I can absolutely imagine Donald Trump signing into law.’ I’m just not gon’ lie …  right now, I can tell you that, unfortunately, I am not working towards very much that I would consider being the progress train,” she said. “I am working to make sure that I can minimize the regress train right now. And I think— and I hope — that my district appreciates that I am being honest with them.”

Moreover, Crockett disclosed in a February interview on “The Breakfast Club” that she was “rooting for” Canada and Mexico due to their opposition to Trump’s administration at the time.

“The fact that I’m rooting for Canada and I’m rooting for Mexico a lot is really wild, but they are really the ones that are speaking truth to power right now,” Crockett said. “They can see what it is and they were like, ‘We are not messing with this crazy regime from Mar-a-Lago,’ and basically calling them thugs. That’s what it is.”

Political analyst Mark Halperin cast doubt on the Democratic Party’s 2028 presidential prospects on “The Morning Meeting” Thursday, calling the likely candidates “overrated.”
