“The View” co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin visibly grew frustrated Wednesday as she attempted to cut off her fellow co-host Sunny Hostin during their debate about education.

Hostin argued that the school voucher system carried out by the Department of Education (DOE) is funding students who attend private schools and come from upper middle to upper class homes, and accused the agency of pulling money from schools in poorer neighborhoods to fund these wealthier students. Griffin attempted to interrupt Hostin to argue that she attended public school while Hostin had the opportunity to be enrolled in a private school.

“That’s just not quite my experience. If I may, just so we can make this more of a conversation,” Griffin said, followed by Hostin demanding that she be allowed to finish speaking. “I went to public school, I believe you got to go to private school. You got to go to private school.”

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg then cut off both Hostin and Griffin to go to break, stating that neither could be understood as they spoke over each other.

“I haven’t gotten a word in and she’s been talking for 3 minutes,” Griffin pushed back.

During the next segment, Griffin advocated for school choice by arguing that children should not “be victims” of an underfunded school lacking the proper educational resources. Hostin argued that some students are automatically victims of “inequity” due to the particular school district they live in, leading Griffin to confront her fellow co-host on where she attended school.

“But where did you go to school?” Griffin asked.

“I attended a charter school in the South Bronx,” Hostin replied, leading Griffin to ask if she then attended private school.

President-elect Donald Trump appointed American First Policy Institute Chairwoman Linda McMahon to be secretary of the DOE, who vowed in a Tuesday statement that she will “fight tirelessly” to expand school choice in every state and allow parents to “make the best education decisions for their families.” Trump has been a major proponent for school choice throughout his political career, in which he signed an executive order in July 2020 increasing school choice access to Hispanic children.
