Key Witness Testimony Contradicts Fani Willis’ Defense Of ‘Romantic’ Relationship With Special Prosecutor

A key witness testified Thursday that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade began in 2019.

Robin Yeartie, who was a close friend of Willis and formerly worked in the district attorney’s office, testified Thursday that Willis’ relationship with Wade began shortly after they met at a conference for municipal court judges in 2019. Her testimony contradicts how Willis and Wade represented their relationship in court filings as starting after Wade’s contract began in 2022.

“You know that their relationship, their personal relationship, began shortly after this municipal court conference?” Trump co-defendant Michael Roman’s attorney Ashleigh Merchant asked.

 

“Yes,” Yeartie replied.

 

“And when I say personal, romantic?” she asked.

 

“Yes,” Yeartie replied.

 

“And you understand it that their relationship began in 2019 and extended until the last time you spoke?” Merchant asked.

 

“Yes,” Yeartie said.

Roman’s initial Jan. 8 motion to disqualify Willis alleged she improperly benefited from appointing Wade as special prosecutor to work on the case against former President Donald Trump when he took her on vacations using funds earned from his position. Willis confirmed the relationship existed in the state’s Feb. 2 response to the motion.
