Panelists on “The Five” blasted Microsoft founder Bill Gates Thursday afternoon for celebrating high energy prices forcing a transition to a “green” economy.
“It’s good for the long run because people won’t want to be dependent on Russian natural gas. So they’ll move to these new approaches more rapidly,” Gates said about the higher energy prices in Europe during a Tuesday interview on CNBC.
“New England residents fear a blackout is coming this winter due to the short supply of gas. In my own home turf, UK officials warned of three-hour blackouts on cold nights in January and February. So, I would say, I saw Justin Trudeau as well talking very positively about what’s going on because it takes us to green energy,” Piers Morgan said. “I’ve sort of made it a rule of thumb that ever since he made a speech saying that the word ‘mankind’ was offensive, and it should be ‘peoplekind.” Basically, if you adopt the opposite view to Justin Trudeau about what you should do about everything, you’re probably right. So on that basis alone, that seems a very incorrect way to go about it. Bill Gates, it’s fine isn’t it for a multibillionaire is to say it’s going to be great. It’s not fine if we talk about the people who are about to face blackouts and cannot afford to heat themselves or feed themselves.”

National Grid, a British power company, announced it was planning three-hour blackouts Oct. 6, saying it also was considering bringing coal-fired backup plants online and paying people to charge electric vehicles overnight or at other times when demand is lower. New England is also facing potential blackouts this winter, despite ample supplies of natural gas, due to pipelines from Appalachia and the Marcellus Shale being blocked by environmentalists.
“If you aren’t directly affected by the war, maybe hold off on your silver lining takes about it because there are people dying right now. There are people buried in rubble,” Greg Gutfeld said. “So when you say in the long term this is really good, I understand what he’s talking about, because they all deal with a myopic filter that puts climate ahead of everything else.”
“When a genius billionaire says something like that, they’re just saying the quiet part out loud, and I’m sure politicians were cringing,” Dana Perino, a former White House press secretary, said. “But do you think the White House is going to have a blackout this year? Of course not.”
Gates did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
