Republican Wisconsin Rep. Bryan Steil announced Sunday on Twitter that he tested positive for the coronavirus.
“After working in Washington, D.C. all of last week, I began experiencing mild symptoms this weekend and contacted my health care provider while at home in Janesville,” Steil said in a screenshot of a statement included in the tweet.
“I took a COVID-19 test today and the test results came back positive. Following CDC guidelines, I am immediately quarantining and will continue serving the people of Southeast Wisconsin from my home in Janesville,” Steil said in the statement.

Steil’s positive test comes as U.S. coronavirus cases are rising, The New York Post reported. Steil won a second term representing Wisconsin’s First Congressional District in November, The Associated Press reported.
The district includes Kenosha, Racine and parts of the Milwaukee, Rock and Walworth counties.
In Congress, 34 members have tested positive for the coronavirus or presumed to have had the disease, NPR reported. As of Monday, 27 House of Representative and 7 Senators have tested or are presumed positive.
Steil’s office didn’t immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for a comment.
