Seven people were found dead in a burning house in northern Alabama Thursday when officers responded to reports of a shooting, local outlet WHNT reported
The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office originally responded to reports of the shooting around 11:30 p.m. in Valhermoso Springs, and arrived to find a burning house with the bodies of three women, and four men, and a dog at the scene, according to WHNT.
The victims were all adults and had suffered multiple bullet wounds, though their relationship to one another was not immediately clear, said Morgan Country Coroner Jeff Chunn, according to the New York Times.
Valhermoso Springs is a small town with fewer than 1,000 people, according to WHNT.
Officials were quick to secure the scene and concluded that while no suspects had been apprehended, there was no existing threat to others in the area, according to a Facebook post from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation is being treated as a homicide, and Mike Swafford, the spokesperson for the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, said that he believed the tragedy was an isolated killing in a statement to the Times.
