A woman’s van floated away in a Georgia river after she jumped out of the vehicle because of a spider that landed on her lap Sunday, Georgia authorities said.

Georgia State Patrol said a woman was ready to put her kayak in the Etowah River as she backed her van down a boat ramp in Barton County, but then the eight-legged creature jumped into her lap. She reacted by jumping out of the van that rolled backward into the waterway, the Atlantic Journal-Constitution reported Monday.

“She stated that it floated downstream a few feet,” a GSP spokesman said, according to AJC. “And within seconds, it was totally submerged. A passerby in a boat attempted to locate the van, but without success.”

A dive team will try to find the van and fish it out of the river, the GSP spokesperson added. The woman’s insurance company will take care of the costs for the divers.

The river runs over 160 miles in northern Georgia.
