GOP Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming said President Donald Trump is willing to shut down the government if Congress doesn’t approve $5 billion for a border wall.

“You see the extent to which you’ve got this caravan of people that, you know, the Democrats would like people to believe that they’re legitimate asylum seekers, but legitimate asylum seekers don’t attack border guards,” Cheney said on “Fox & Friends” Wednesday.

“They don’t throw rocks and bricks and projectiles and rush the border. And so I think you’ve got a situation where every day on the news now we’re seeing how crucially important it is that we make sure that we beef up security on our border,” she said. “And the president is not willing to give on this. He’s been very firm and we’ve got to get the $5 billion.”

Co-host Ainsley Earhardt asked if the president has a “plan B” in case the funding isn’t approved and Cheney said the border wall is the only plan right now.

“No, the plan is we’ve got to get $5 billion for the wall,” Cheney replied. “We’re in a situation now where we’ve actually provided funding for our military. We’ve provided funding for [the Department of Labor] and [Health and Human Services] in the same appropriations bill. That’s been completed. That’s been signed. And the president’s been clear that he’s willing to shut down the government if we don’t get this 5 billion.”

“The Democrats, as I said, they’re in a tough spot,” she added. “They want to abolish [Immigration and Customs Enforcement]. They want to have open borders. The American people are watching the kind of crime that, that would result in, in terms of the people flooding across our border. And the president’s exactly right. The House Republicans are with him. We’ve got to make sure that we secure the border.”
