Democrats are “kidding themselves” if they think they have the House locked up in the upcoming midterm elections, said political strategist Ned Ryun on “Fox & Friends” Friday.
“Democrats have been extremely confident. I remember in 2014 they felt like they had the House in the bag and woke up the next morning realizing, whoops didn’t get the House back,” Ryun said.
“I think there is a bit of overconfidence,” he continued. “If they can say can with utmost certainty that they are going to take the House back in about 100 hours, I think they’re kidding themselves. There are so many toss-up races.”
Ryun cited a House race in Kansas where the Republican leads the Democrat by 6 points and said the choice for voters Tuesday is clear: “socialism versus Americanism.”
“I was looking at numbers out of Kansas, too. My dad’s old district, which is [an] open seat. And they’re saying it’s a toss-up and the Republicans in fact, up by 6 points in Kansas too. And so that’s a toss-up and the Republicans up by 6 points — I’m feeling pretty confident,” he said.
Ryun also said the country should be prepared for historic voter turnout and predicted it’ll be one of the biggest midterms of this generation.
“I think we are going to see historic turnout on election day. It will probably be one of the biggest midterms we’ve seen in the last generation, because it is so momentous. I mean [President Donald] Trump has it right,” he said. “This is jobs versus mobs, but I think even on a much bigger level it’s about socialism versus Americanism. Are we going to cut ties with our past or are we going to re-embrace it?”
“This feels momentous — that 2018, 2020, 2022 are a real turning point for this country and which direction we’re going to go,” Ryun concluded, adding:
“I’m optimistic that November 7, Democrats are going to wake up with that soul sucking sensation they didn’t take the House back and now they’re staring at Trump re-election in 2020 smack in the face.”
