Syndicated columnist for The Washington Post, Marc Thiessen, claimed President Donald Trump is one of the most “honest” presidents in American history because he’s delivered on most of his campaign promises.
“When you look at the real barometer of presidential truthfulness which is promise-keeping, he’s probably the most honest president in American history. For better or for worse, whether you agree with his policies or disagree with his policies he’s done exactly what he said he would do as president,” Thiessen said on “Fox & Friends” Tuesday.
“He promised to move the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and recognize it as the capital. Three of his predecessors promised to do that, he’s the only one who delivered,” he continued. “He promised to destroy ISIS. He has virtually eliminated ISIS’s physical caliphate. He promised to impose a travel ban. I personally don’t agree with the travel ban, but he promised to do and it and the Supreme Court upheld it.”
Thiessen said Trump has also delivered on his economic and energy promises and well as his pledge to pull the U.S. out of the Paris Climate deal.
“On the economy he promised a tax reform and massive regulatory roll back, he’s done it. On energy, he promised to open up the Arctic ANWR and approve the Keystone XL and Dakota access pipeline and to pull out of the Paris climate accord. He’s done it. You just go down the list of the things that he promised to do, he’s done them one after another,” he added.
“When it comes to honesty, what Americans expect from a president — They expect them to keep their promises and Donald Trump does that every day.”
Thiessen also said Trump is still chipping away at other promises like repealing ObamaCare and has taken great care when making major decisions that might conflict with his campaign pledges.
“He’s absolutely made an effort and it’s been Democratic obstruction and the resistance that has blocked it,” he said.
“Then when he has pulled back on a campaign promise, like pulling all troops out of Afghanistan, it was after a careful review. If you read Bob Woodward’s book, it’s very comforting. He took a very careful review where he spent a lot of time grilling his generals and came to the conclusion that he had been wrong.”
