Supporters of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh thanked West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin at his office Friday after he voted to advance Kavanaugh’s nomination to a final confirmation vote.

Manchin was the lone Democrat to vote for cloture in Kavanaugh’s confirmation, advancing the process for a final vote to be held as early as Saturday evening. The cloture vote narrowly passed 51-49. GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska was the lone Republican to vote against the motion.

A group of supporters crowded into Manchin’s office afterward praised the senator for his cloture vote, shouting, “thank you, Senator Manchin!”

A few scattered anti-Kavanaugh protesters joined in the yell with a chant: “Shame, shame, shame.”

The final vote will likely be held Saturday night if Majority Leader Mitch McConnell can rally enough votes to confirm Kavanaugh without the vote of Montana GOP Sen. Steve Daines, who will be absent Saturday while attending his daughter’s wedding. GOP Rep. Greg Gianforte of Montana has offered Daines his private plane to return to the Senate as quickly as possible if his vote is needed.
