Dutch authorities arrested seven men Thursday suspected of plotting a major terrorist attack in the Netherlands.

Authorities reported the men were planning a large coordinated attack using explosives, automatic weapons and hand grenades among other weapons, according to Deutsche Wells.

“The suspects were in search of AK47s, hand guns, hand grenades, explosive vests and raw materials for several (car) bombs,” according to authorities.

Thursday’s arrests follow a month-long investigation spearheaded by authorities after an intelligence report indicated that a 34-year-old man of Iraqi descent intended to attack “a large event in the Netherlands where there would be a lot of victims,” Deutsche Wells reported.

He and two other suspects were previously convicted of traveling outside the country to fight for ISIS.

Dutch authorities nailed the impending plot after the suspects began “advanced preparations,” according to Deutsche Wells.

The Netherlands has not been immune to attacks. Five men in Enschede threw Molotov cocktails at a mosque with people inside on Feb. 27, 2016. Two people were gravely injured in a knife attack at a railway station in Amsterdam in late August.

Other European countries have suffered a number of terrorist attacks and attempts, especially France and England.

The suspects will face a judge Friday.
