Tucker Carlson: Kavanaugh V Ford Debate Isn’t About Protecting Women, ‘It’s About Abortion’

The firestorm between Judge Brett Kavanaugh and his accuser Christine Blasey Ford isn’t about protecting women, it’s about abortion, Fox News show host and Daily Caller co-founder Tucker Carlson said on his show Monday.

“This story doesn’t have anything to do with justice actually or even with what Brett Kavanaugh may have done in high school. Underneath it all, anyone who lives in Washington can tell you, it’s about abortion,” Carlson said.

Carlson pointed to the fact that Democrats have known about Ford’s accusations since July according to multiple reports, but did not come forward with the allegations earlier expressly for political reasons.

“Instead they waited. And the point, of course, was to derail his nomination. The timing was entirely political, anyone who says otherwise is not telling the truth,” Tucker wrote.

Carlson’s op-ed follows allegations that Kavanaugh tried to force himself on Ford when they were both minors. The allegations were first reported by The New Yorker on Sept. 14. Ford’s name was not reported until Sunday.

California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein sent a letter to the FBI about the allegations on Sept. 13, allowing this claim to gain widespread attention.

“This is a completely false allegation. I have never done anything like what the accuser describes — to her or to anyone,” Kavanaugh said in a Monday statement. Kavanaugh also said he wasn’t at the party that’s been described as the location where the assault occurred.

Carlson noted that although Kavanaugh claims he is innocent, Ford is not likely a liar and seems sincere, adding that her memory may not be reliable given the time that has passed.

Allegations against Kavanaugh would never have surfaced if he had pledged allegiance to Roe v. Wade and ensured that it would not be overturned, Carlson surmised.

“Some of the very same people suggesting that Kavanaugh is a sex criminal once defended Bill Clinton when he was credibly accused of rape,” Carlson continued. Ford’s lawyer, Debra Katz, claimed that an accuser’s suit against the former president didn’t present ample evidence of a sexually hostile work environment. Katz has also said that “context is relevant” after allegations surfaced that former Minnesota Democratic Sen. Al Franken had sexually assaulted a number of women.

“Whatever the story is, it’s not about protecting women,” Tucker wrote. “If Republicans allow Kavanaugh’s nomination to be derailed over an unprovable allegation … They’ll never put a justice on the Supreme Court again,” Carlson concluded.

The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a public hearing for Kavanaugh and Ford on Sept. 24.
