Quinnipiac University has rescinded a “First Amendment Award” for former “60 Minutes” producer Jeff Fager after more allegations surrounding his alleged assault surfaced to the public.
Quinnipiac gave Fager the award back in June, but retracted it after learning about his hiring of a special firm to kill any negative stories against him. The news follows multiple CBS employees alleging Fager inappropriately touched them at company parties.
The firm, Clare Locke, is said to have bragged about “killing stories” in the media and worked with former NBC host Matt Lauer and New York Times reporter Glenn Thrush, according to The Daily Beast.
In his award acceptance speech, Fager stressed “standards” and “values” and said reporting the news is a vital public service.
Dean of Quinnipiac’s School of Communications called the ceremony a “celebration of great journalism” and said Fager’s work has “never been more important in our country’s modern history than it is today.”
The school’s administration has since reversed their perception of the fallen media icon and told Law & Crime he would no longer be recognized by the university for his achievements.
“Jeff Fager will no longer be recognized as a recipient of the award,” associate vice president for public relations John W. Morgan told Law & Crime.
CBS is no stranger to the #MeToo controversy after having to dismiss one of their top hosts Charlie Rose for sexual assault allegations, along with their former CEO Les Moonves.
Moonves resigned just hours after a second bombshell report hit the media, regarding his alleged sexual misconduct. His nine-figure buyout deal is still up in the air and could net him anywhere between $100-180 million.
