Showtime Exec Says Sacha Baron Cohen’s Sarah Palin Interview May Be DOA

Showtime entertainment president Gary Levin hinted Sacha Baron Cohen’s interview with Sarah Palin may not make it to air, during a Monday interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Cohen interviewed Palin on his new show, “Who Is America,” back in July and disguised himself as a disabled American war veteran. Cohen drew outrage for his disrespect and bad taste and was accused of using stolen valor to advance his agenda.

“There are several people who have thrown themselves in front of buses that may not be headed their way,” Levine told Entertainment Weekly after he was asked about Palin.

“Sacha is very hardworking and selective in [creating] the final product,” he continued. “He’s always refining it. We’ll see.”

Reporters tried to follow up with Levine to ask if there was a legal issue preventing Showtime from airing the footage, but Levine stayed on message and deferred to Cohen’s creativity.

“Sacha is refining stuff right up to the moment it goes on the air,” Levine concluded. “He screens stuff for audiences. It all feels off the cuff but it’s remarkably researched.”
