Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro abruptly halted his speech during an outdoor military event Saturday after explosions from drone-like devices.
Information Minister Jorge Rodriguez said the socialist president was safe, though seven soldiers were injured, The Associated Press reported.
Maduro was giving a speech in celebration of the Venezuelan National Guard’s 81st anniversary.
“To the conscious Venezuela, we are going to bet for the good of our country, the hour of the economic recovery has come and we need,” Maduro said before his broadcast was cut off, according to the AP.
“I trust the armed force to capture those responsible for the war against the people,” Maduro said on Twitter, according to the British news site the Daily Express.
Media in the area reported that the explosions came from a nearby building.
