George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley said President Donald Trump’s former attorney, Michael Cohen, is an irredeemable witness with waning credibility.
“I think the Cohen development is very serious. [Trump’s] one witness away from a potential catastrophe,” Turley said on “Morning Joe” Monday. “If any of those five [Mueller] witnesses breaks and supports Michael Cohen this is going to get real bad real fast.”
Turley claimed Donald Trump Jr. could end up going to court and predicted a fierce backlash from the White House if he’s ever formally charged with a crime.
“It is not that the [Trump Tower] meeting will establish a crime of collusion, even if what Cohen is saying is true,” Turley continued. “What it would mean is that Donald Trump Jr. would be in serious jeopardy of a criminal charge. If Mueller was to go after Donald Trump Jr., I think we would see a very rapid chain of events and it would not end well for anyone.”
Turley said Trump would likely begin firing people if his son was ever charged with a crime and his actions would invite stronger calls for impeachment.
“I think that Donald Trump very well could match his past visceral language with similar language with similar action. He could start to fire people,” Turley added. “And that would have a cascading effect. It would probably take us right to the door step of impeachment.”
He then called Cohen’s credibility into question and labeled him irredeemable.
“Thus far, there isn’t any corroboration from Michael Cohen and the fact is, he’s not a very credible person,” Turley concluded. “Cohen is really not redeemable as a witness.
