Trump Organization executive vice president and chief financial officer has been called to testify before a federal grand jury in the investigation of President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen.
It’s unclear if CFO Allen Weisselberg — who one person described as “the most senior person in the organization that’s not a Trump” — has already testified or what questions he has or will be asked, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.
Before Trump took office, he gave control of his financial assets and business interests to his sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, and Weisselberg.
Weisselberg is said to know “where all the financial bodies are buried” a former Trump Organization employee told CNN.
Weisselberg is reported to have arranged checks for Trump to sign, handled many of his personal finances and worked with Trump Organization executives regarding business payments.
The WSJ reported that Weisselberg helped facilitate payments to Cohen. Trump’s former lawyer is reported to have paid porn star Stormy Daniels — whose real name is Stephanie Clifford — $130,000 payment to keep her quiet about a supposed affair between her and Trump.
In a tape released this week, Cohen recorded Trump allegedly discussing another payment to a Playboy model to buy the rights to her story about her own supposed affair with the now-president. Cohen tells Trump in the recording that he spoke “with Allen Weisselberg about how to set the whole thing up,” before Mr. Trump interrupted him.
Weisselberg was a part of the Democrats’ on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence wish list to subpoena in the Russia probe, The Daily Caller News Foundation reported in March.
Former Morris County, N.J. prosecutor Bob Bianchi toldFox News’ Shepard Smith that “once [investigators] speak to [Weisselberg], they’ll get to Cohen,” on Thursday.
