New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman slammed President Donald Trump on CNN’s “New Day” Friday for extending a White House invitation to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Haberman said the president’s team doesn’t seem to be behind his decision to invite Putin to Washington in the fall, mentioning there’s a sense of grave dysfunction within the executive branch.
“This is once again proof that this is not a [White House] team that functions as a team, which we have seen evidence of since January 21 of 2017,” Haberman said.
Haberman said the White House was trying to sell out Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats for going against Trump on Russia, but suggested it was the president who is “going rogue.”
“What we have heard … is the White House trying to basically put Dan Coats out there on a raft and suggest that he is going off on his own and he’s the one acting as a rogue agent — it’s the president of the United States who is acting at odds with basically everybody else in his government on this topic,” she said.
“It is true that somebody is going rogue, but it doesn’t seem to be everyone else,” Haberman concluded.
