Twitter banned an account renowned for poking fun at leftist notions like “punching Nazis,” calling absurd things “racist,” and embracing refugees and diversity at all costs, on Wednesday.
It was not the first time the satirist going by the name “Godfrey Elfwick” had gotten kicked off of the social media platform. Twitter banned the prankster, who then had over 70,000 Twitter followers, in July 2017 for violating its “targeted abuse” policy, according to Breitbart.
“If it persecutes a jester, it’s probably a tyrant,” University of Toronto psychology professor and author Jordan B. Peterson tweeted regarding Elfwick’s ban.

Elfwick’s satirical tweets mocked concepts like identity politics, wealth redistribution and the progressive aversion to free speech.

“I’ve never actually seen #StarWars,” Elfwick said in 2015. “But the fact that the bad guy was all black and ate watermelons was unbelievably racist even for the 70s.”
The BBC invited Elfwick on air to discuss Star Wars after making this remark.

Elfwick also popularized a #WrongSkin campaign on Twitter in 2015 after the revelation that white civil rights activist Rachel Dolezal had pretended to be black.

Twitter did not respond immediately to a request for comment as to why it banned Elfwick. The company banned Elfwick in 2017 after tweets in which the satirist called former professional soccer player and current sports broadcaster Gary Lineker a “virtue-signalling c**t.”
The account appeared briefly to make a second return Wednesday, garnering a few thousand followers under a different handle before being banned again.
